The Early Years Literacy Forum is a FREE one-day event that brings together people and programs specialising in early years development and working towards strong literacy and development outcomes. This forum is aimed not only at early years educators, professional librarians, and academics, but also parents, grandparents, carers and anyone with an interest in driving better early years literacy and language outcomes in our communities.
The Forum will inform participants of the basics of early brain development and the role that we all can easily play, using very simple Abecadrian tools such as conversational reading and play, to contribute to better education and life outcomes for our children.
We will also highlight some of the incredible work in early literacy being undertaken by various organisations such as the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, Beyond the Bell, and Paint the Town Read.
Our Keynote Speaker is Associate Professor Jane Page from University of Melbourne, an expert in the Abecedarian methodology, and our MC is Angela Savage, CEO, Public Libraries Victoria.
The Warrnambool Library is creating this Forum as a prelude to a larger project, to help us to address some of the entrenched challenges around educational attainment, life choices and opportunities that research has shown early engagement can benefit. We believe that bringing together and sharing the expertise and experiences of our program of speakers will also open up further opportunities for creation and collaboration in the space of early years literacy and development, particularly in regional and rural areas.
This all day event will include opportunities for networking following the formal program of speakers.
